Welcome to our PACE Page!  We will display photos that show the many differentiation
activities going on in our PACE classrooms.  This year we are beginning to focus more
on Math and Science, while still maintaining our Fine Arts and Communication strands.

These multi-age students used engineering concepts with blocks to create a
building with floors cantilevered from a central core.  They learned this design
while investigating the works of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.  Wright
used this idea in the Johnson Wax Research Tower in Racine, Wisconsin built
in 1944. 

Local architect Mark Strong shares plans for LISD buildings with PACE multiage
students.  He is standing outside the geodesic dome constructed by the students
during their architecture/engineering unit.


Jean Ann Keen and Sue Rolf have kept their multiage PACE students busy
working!  Above the students are beginning construction on their dome.
Part of this unit included a class research project using the IIM research
method to learn about the life and work of Frank Lloyd Wright. 


Second grade PACE students study the lives and art styles of Vincent Van Gogh,
Claude Monet, and Mary Cassatt.  These students are adding the finishing touch
to their bulletin board featuring student created art work "in the style of" Van
Gogh. 


First grade PACE students have been studying botany and this friend is adding
a label to the class diagram of the parts of a seed.  They are using an interactive
Smart Board.

Mrs. Kathy Goehring's second grade PACE students work on a project with their
partners.  PACE students participate in project learning in small groups, with a
buddy partner, and individually depending on the curriclum focus.

Jim McReynolds
State Representative Jim McReynolds shares with first grade students in 
Ann Goff's PACE class.  He visited to teach a lesson on our presidential election
process prior to the Texas primaries.


First grade PACE students in Mrs. Shriver's class take notes during a Learning
Journey to the zoo.  They are participating in a year-long alliance with Ellen 
Trout Zoo focusing on the tiger exhibits.  This is part of our emphasis on
Math and Science in our PACE program. 


Candy from Ms. Jamie's second grade PACE class is the star of her very
own podcast!  See our "Podcast" link from Dunbar's homepage to listen
to wonderful podcasts created by our PACE students.


Ms. Goff's first grade students "behind the scenes" at the tiger 
exhibit with Charlotte Henley at Ellen Trout Zoo.


Students in the multiage class of Sue Rolf and Jean Ann Keen interview 
a resident of Pine Crest Retirement Community for a podcast about her
past.  Check out her story and many others from the "Podcast" link on
our Dunbar Home Page.


Mrs. Clos' class is learning French!  They have weekly French lessons,
a global connection with a school in Paris, and visit Lufkin High School
French classes to read storybooks in French with the LHS students.


Second grade PACE students learn about Lufkin's colorful history from 
a representative of Main Street Lufkin as they research the beginnings
of our community. 


A first grade student in Ms. Kellye Marshall's class shares the 
book she has selected for a Book Project.  Students self-select
books which makes the projects more meaningful to the students
and increases engagement. 


First grade PACE students record a podcast at the beginning of the year to 
introduce themselves.  Look at those grins!
